How to Start a Stuffed Animal Blog

Hello friends! I have a very special post for you guys today. Today, I will be showing you guys how to start your very own stuffed animal blog! Before I get started, I’d like to share a couple other posts I’ve written along these lines: Why you should Start a SA Blog, and BAB blogging vs. AG blogging.

So, if you haven’t noticed, there aren’t very many blogs about stuffed animals. There are (or were, at least) a large selection of American Girl/Doll blogs. I love doll blogs, but sometimes, I wonder why there are so many of them, while only a single stuffed animal blog(please correct me if I am wrong). I think that this is mainly because of awareness.

The American Girl Blogging community is huge. There are a ton of people who read American girl blogs. I would bet you that there are girls out there who would like to start an American Girl blog, but don’t have an American Girl Doll. Well, I have an easy solution for those girls! Start a blog about Stuffed Animals!

The American Girl Blogging Community has many different bloggers who love and support one another. I used to be a part of this community, and that’s the main reason I miss blogging about AG so much! I know that some of you AG bloggers do read my blog and support me, and I’m very grateful for that! At the same time, it would be nice to have other stuffed animal bloggers around. It’s nice to have people who have shared experiences in your circle. I would love to see photos of other stuffed animals going on crazy adventures like mine, or maybe even crazier! It would be great to have another stuffie blogger to talk to about how to make things different sizes for the different sized stuffed animals. I’d like to know the policies about having stuffed animals wear clothes(mine mostly wear clothes, but they don’t have to) I know there are so many amazing potential stuffed animal bloggers out there, and I wanted to encourage them to just start blogging!

Blogging encompasses so many different talents. Writing. Photography. Graphic design/art. Crafting. Sewing. So much more. I think a lot of people start a blog and then realize how much they like one of these hobbies. I’ve seen girls start an American Girl blog and then go on to selling their crafts on etsy, entering photography competitions, or even becoming a published author! Blogging can be a wonderful thing. I’m not saying that you’ll have one of these things happen if you start a blog, but it could.

The first thing you will need to do of course is to start a blog. There are many different platforms, such as Weebly, Blogger, WordPress, etc. They all have their benefits, but I suggest starting with Blogger. It’s really easy to navigate and design. WordPress is a bit more complicated. However, you could also begin with WordPress and then you only need to learn how to use one platform. Most bloggers I know who were on Blogger have switched to WordPress by now.

You can look up tutorials online about how to create a blog(here’s a great one), so I’m not going to tell you how to create your blog. I will however be sharing content and tips on what you can post.

Before starting your blog, I would reccomend coming up with a few post ideas. You don’t need a full plan, but if you can’t think of an idea for a post other than “Welcome to my blog!” you might be getting ahead of yourself.

When I want post ideas, I usually get a notebook(I dedicate the notebook to blogging, but you don’t have to.) and start writing down whatever ideas come to mind. Maybe you want to post something about Valentine’s day coming up, or a recent vacation you just took your stuffed animals on. You always want to have a page where your readers can get to know your stuffed animals(mine needs updating, but it is there), so they don’t get confused. Other than that, you can post anything you want to. You only want to post a simple photo of your stuffed animal and a paragraph about what it did that day? That’s perfectly fine. You want to post an extravagent photostory about one of your stuffed animal’s birthday? That is also a great idea. There is no right or wrong way to blog about stuffed animals.

While I did say there are no right of wrong ways to blog, there are a few things you should do if you want people to read your blog.

Have decent photos

OK, no one wants to see a photo that is incredibly blurry and messy, and just hard to look at. I get that most people can’t afford expensive cameras, but you can take nice photos with just your phone. Take a little bit to figure out how the camera you do use works, and go from there. In general, simply having a simple background and a focused photo can make a big difference.

Don’t have a lot of Typo’s

I can’t explain it as well as this post, but basically no one wants to read “hhi guys i like to tipe on miblog”, when they could read “Hi guys! I like to type on my blog.” It really isn’t that hard.

That’s about it, though I would also reccomend to have tags on your posts. People can search for whatever they want through WordPress reader, and I’m pretty sure I owe about 25% of my followers to tags.

Loren’s post, covers a lot more tips, and most blogs have had multiple tips posts. You can just go to your favorite blog and search for “Tips” or “How-to’s” Even if they don’t have anything, you can still take note of how they run their blog and run yours similarly. Think about the reason you like to read their blog, and try to have a reason why people will like your posts too.

I hope this post inspired you to start a blog! I really would like to see more Stuffed Animal Blogs out there. If you have a stuffed animal blog, please let me know! I’d love to read it.

Update: I forgot to mention this earlier, but it’s important enough for me to update this post for. You do not have to start a new blog. I realize this post is about starting a new blog, but if you already have a blog, you don’t need to start over! You can just add a few posts to your current blog(maybe a monthly segment of something) about stuffed animals. Thanks to Emmie and Liberty/freedomchild for reminding me to add this part!

    1. That’s so awesome! I’m so glad I was able to inspire you, that post sounds super fun! I completely forgot to mention in the post that you would never need to have an additional blog(you could, but it isn’t necessary) in order to join the Stuffed Animal Blogging Community. Thank you so much for reminding me! (I’ve updated the post now)

  1. Hmm, I don’t know any other stuffed animal blogs, but I will soon be coming out with a few stuffed animal post. A couple of my dolls just had birthdays, and I have a few more ideas for them. I just haven’t gotten around to them yet. Before I redid my blog, the header was a picture of my stuffed animals. I really like my doll, but I will do a little AG doll blogging too. I have a few ideas for that. It’s just going to be a mismatch of everything really.
(And a whole lot of randomness!)

    1. Really? That’s awesome! I can’t wait to see them! Oh yeah, you did have stuffed animals in your header! I mostly read your posts on WordPress reader, but I do remember the stuffed animals! I think your blog is great, and I can’t wait to see the Stuffed Animal/AG/Random posts you come up with next. This comment reminded me that I wanted to mention in the post that people can blog about Stuffed Animals along with other things, so thank you! I’ve updated the post and gave a link to your blog for helping remind me of that.

      1. I’ve been trying to find a way to bring back the picture of my dolls, but I’m having a little trouble. I have way too many stuffed animal, AG, and other stuff post ideas that I can’t remember them all, I really should write them down. I might come out with a whole lot of post in one short time.
        Thank you, and you’re welcome!😊

        1. Hm, I’m not sure if I can help, but if you have the photo saved on your computer, you can probably look at the header section of your design. Some designs don’t support headers though. I wouldn’t worry too much about it, your design looks really cool. Yes, definitely write everything down! I love having a blogging notebook, but you could even type them up on a word document too. I would also recommend instead of posting a lot in a short amount of time, schedule some posts. It’s pretty easy, all you have to do is click publish once and then look below it for the “publish immediately?” Button. You can put whatever date you want in, and it saves a lot of hassle for me. I’ve learned that most people don’t like a lot of posts in one day unless it’s a special occasion, so you might want to have a scheduled post every day/every other day until you catch up. Good luck, and I can’t wait!
