Hello friends! Last year, you guys said you wanted to see more of life at camp type posts, so this year I am going to be making one every week. I hope you enjoy this one!
In today’s post, you will get to hear about Petal’s arrival at camp.
Hello! I’m Petal, and I’m going to let you all know about my first day at camp. Last year, I made so many friends in my cabin. Normally, I don’t make friends easily, but last year I was in a cabin with Gracie and Cali. I was already friends with Gracie, and Cali is my cousin, so we got along well. This year however, the cabins are different. And I’ve never even met my counselor before! So it goes without saying that I was nervous to meet my new cabinmates.
I walked into my cabin, carrying my backpack and guitar. My stomach knotted up. My counselor seemed very…bold.
I recognized my cousin Cherry. I also noticed Claire, who I don’t know very well. They both seemed to be getting along well with our counselor.
“Um, hello,” I mumbled.
“Welcome to mmyyyyyyyy cabin! We’re going to have lots of fun because IIII am sooooo awesome!” my counselor boomed.
“Um, what is your name?” I squeaked.
My counselor gasped. “You don’t know who I am? I am the one, the only TREASURE!”
I shrank into the cabin wall.
“Take a seat with the other campers,” Treasure sighed. “We’re getting to know each other and clearly, you need to get to know ME.”
We played a couple get to know you games. I participated a little bit, but I still tried to not draw a lot of attention to myself. It wasn’t very hard, because Treasure took up most of the spotlight. She seems…interesting.
After a few hours had passed, Treasure announced that she had to go.
Since we had about an hour before dinner, we stayed behind to get to know one another better. I mostly let Cherry and Claire talk because they knew each other already.
“So, are you any good at the guitar?” Claire asked.
I didn’t realize she was talking to me at first. “I guess,”
“Why don’t you play something for us?” Cherry suggested.
I picked up my guitar and began playing it. After I got started, I began to loosen up. Playing the guitar is something that I started doing at camp last year, but I’ve since taken classes. Guitar is the one thing that I’m not shy about, so I had a good time playing it.
“That was amazing!” Cherry clapped.
“Yes!” Claire agreed.
I relaxed a little bit. Maybe I could get along with my new cabinmates.
Already having bonded some, we walked to dinner together, eager for all that camp had to offer.
