DIY Red Cape

Hello friends! Welcome to the first day of Once Upon a Time Week! Today I have a fun craft. We’re going to be making a red cape for Little Red Riding Hood!

Also, I forgot to publish the photo challenge page. Well, that’s fixed now, so go check it out!

Just a heads up, I’m not exactly the best seamstress by any means. But, I do think that this hood turned out pretty well, and it was pretty simple too.

Your supplies will include:

  • A needle
  • Thread
  • Scissors
  • Red Fabric
  • Your model

I don’t have a pattern because each stuffed animal is a different size. Anyway, the first thing you will need to cut is a rectangle.

This rectangle will be your cape. Make sure it is long enough to be a cape, and also wide enough to go around your model’s neck.

Then, you’re going to want these quarter of a circle shapes. They should be almost big enough to go around your model’s head.

You will need two of these shapes.

Next, you are going to press everything.

Then, you need to hem three sides on the cape.

And you will also hem all but one side of the quarter shapes. Also, sew the two pieces together along the rounded side.

Now, you are going to pin the hood to the cape like shown.

Stitch the hood onto the cape,

Okay, so now you are going to cut a long strip of fabric. It will need to go around the model’s neck, so make sure it is long enough.

Now, I twisted the strip of fabric and sewed it to the seam.

Ta-Da! I think it looks pretty good.

Make sure to send any pictures of this craft to worldofagdollsblog(at)gmail(dot)com! I hope you enjoy Once Upon a Time Week!

  1. You did a good job! It turned out really good. I would totally make this but I sadly don’t have any fabric. ๐Ÿ™‚ Also, for the photo challenge, does the pic of everyone in the cabin from my photostory count as arriving at camp?

    1. Thank you! Oh cool! I don’t normally buy fabric, but my grandma had some red fabric I could use when I went to her house. I normally just use worn out clothes.
      Sure!

  2. This looks fun! I might do it, although I have loads of fabric, but I don’t think any of it is red. I might make a little blue riding hood.

    1. Thanks! Make sure to send me a picture if you do. I think a blue hood would be cute! It turned out really cute in red, but I think it would look really good in another color too.
