The Heart of a Story ~ Guest Post by Kaelyn

Hello friends! I hope you enjoy today’s post! Kaelyn wrote it.

Hello Campers from Camp Happy Heart!! 🙂 My name is Amor, the heart stuffie, and my name means love in Spanish, which is my home country of Spain’s national language. This is my first year ever at Camp Happy Heart and A Book Can Take You Anywhere week has been an incredible experience. My favorite thing that has happened this week has been a book club with my counselor, Merci ( her name means thank you in French), and my friends High Princess Unie of FunTown and Princess Moonshine of the Star-Sector.
( All French words have been italicized and definitions found with Google Translate.)

Our first book club meaning was outside under a big tree on top of a quilt. We each brought our books that we have been reading after we picked them out of the camp library.
I started!

“The book that I chose was Star Wars: Jedi Academy A New Class by Jarrent J.Krosoczka . I am about half-way through, but I love the comic book and journal style that he uses. My favorite character is well, the main one! His name is Victor and is about him training to be a Jedi!”, I said in excitement. I am a big Star Wars fan!!
“That’s wonderful, Amor.”, said Merci in her beautiful French accent,” Moonshine, you may go next, cher ami”.

“Thank you, Merci. I chose the book Refugee by Alan Gratz. The story gets to follow the perspectives of three children from three different times who are refugees. It is their family’s stories and how they intertwine together makes it a compelling read. I already finished it because I could not put it down.” Princess Moonshine said with a smile.

“Moonshine, that sounds like a wonderful story. I would love to read it,” Merci replied.

“This story was so eye-opening! I recommend all of you read it!” Moonshine said as she pulled out extra copies of the book to share.

Merci then said, “Alright, Unie, we will finish with you,mon cher. What book did you read or a book that you are currently reading?”

Princess Unie then started to explain the book saying, “Well, Merci, I read the first book in The Secret Life of Samantha McGregor series by Melody Carlson. The book is called Bad Connection and I am just on the first few chapters of it. The main character is Samantha and she has the gift of having prophetic dreams and visions. It is a Christian book series too. I really like it so far.”

“Sounds like it is a good read so far. Thank you for sharing Unie!”, Merci said with a flourish of her tail.

“What are you reading right now, Merci? I see that you brought a book with you!”, I said with a smile.

“Oh… that. To be honest, les petits, I was hoping that you would not notice.”, she said sadly.
Moonshine then asked, “Why is that?”

“Well, Princesse Moonshine, that is because, well, I have not even started it yet. I have been too busy with my duties here at camp to start on the book. All of us counselors were supposed to read a book as well with our assigned book clubs. I will start it as soon as I can, mon cher.“, Merci said with a sad smile.

Princess Unie said, ” Merci, you have been really busy and you have been an incredible book club leader! We have loved having you!”

“Thank you, Votre Altesse, that is very kind of you. Well, I can’t tell you about the book itself, since I haven’t read it yet, but it is the second book in The Unwanteds Series by Lisa McMann. I have read the first one and it was quite delightful. The second book is called Island of Silence! I am ecstatic that I will get to start this book soon.”, Merci said.

“Thanks for being honest, Mrs. Merci!!”, I said, ” I think you could use a group hug!!”

“Well, I don’t know, but alright,” she said.

Me and the rest of the campers all ran to give her one.

“Thank you, filles douces,” Merci said, hugging us all back.

We all giggled as we got out of our group hug.

“Now, les petits, it is time to go to lunch. Shall we go together?”, Merci asked with a smile on her face.

“Oui!”, we all said in unison.

“Well then, let’s go!!” Merci said.

Until next time, campers and I hope you are enjoying your book club as much as I am!  Happy reading and remember, a book can take you anywhere! With love, Amor 💕
