Yay! It’s time for the next installment of Aftershock! I now know more about how this series is going to turn out, and I can say with confidence that there will be 2 seasons! I’m thinking this season will wrap up with 9 episodes(plus the prologue and Christmas special). So, I’ll either do two episodes in January, or conclude the series in February. What would you guys rather me do?
Anyway, if you don’t remember what’s happened so far, make sure to check out the previous episodes!
I was slowly learning my team’s routine. Wake up. Train. Eat. Study Supers. Eat. Sleep. Repeat. Missions were occasional, but we had to be ready to go at a moment’s notice, so we usually stayed in the air as long as we could. Baby’s systems kept the plane on auto-pilot, but Tori could always step in if there was a problem. Our team worked well. We were really starting to get to know each other. It was almost as if we were a family.
“New Mission! Report to Briefing Room!” Baby buzzed.
I took off into the briefing room. I got there right before Andy, but Tori was already waiting for us.
“The potential super today might be a little difficult. She lives in a camper and doesn’t like to go out unless absolutely necessary,” Tori announced, handing us a tablet.
“She definitely sounds like a super,” Andy added. “Most of them live away from big cities and avoid people.”
“Okay, so how do we get her samples then?” I asked. We couldn’t just swipe a few hairs of a restaurant booth for this one.
“We’ll have no choice but to engage with the subject. I’m working on a cover about how there’s been a kidnapping in the area and we’ll need DNA samples from everyone around,” Tori answered.
“That…doesn’t sound all that believable,” I sighed.
“With these credentials it will,” Tori replied, flashing a FBI badge.
I nodded. “Okay. When do we touch down?”
“20 minutes. Gear up.”
It was decided that Andy and I would talk to the potential super, while Tori and Baby monitored us from the plane.
“Is this Erica Harmon’s residence?” Andy pounded at the door.
Erica inched the door open. “What do you want?”
“We’re with the FBI,” I began, flashing the fake badge. “There’s been a kidnapping in this area and we need DNA samples from everyone.”
Andy gave me a slight smile. I’d done well so far.
“I’ve never hurt anyone,” Erica gulped.
“Oh, we aren’t saying you have! But any of your DNA that’s around here could be eliminated from the batch of potential suspects,” I quickly added.
“Okay,” Erica sighed. “What do you need?”
Andy handed her a pair of scissors. “We just need a little bit of hair. That’s all.”
Erica snipped a little bit of her hair and gave it to Andy, who sealed it in a bag.
“Thank you for your cooperation, Ms. Harmon,” I smiled. We turned around and left. “That was easy,” I whispered to Andy.
“Sometimes it goes like that,” he shrugged.
When we made it back to the plane, Baby analyzed Erica’s hair.
“Well?” I asked, impatiently.
“The subject is NOT a superhero,” Baby replied.
“It happens every so often,” Tori added, for my benefit. “I’d say for every positive result, there’s two negative ones. I wish there was an easier way to tell.”
I sighed. “Well, at least it made today a little more interesting,”
What do you think? I feel like these episodes get better each time. Do you think I should post two episodes in January, or one in January and one in February?
Also, keep an eye out for BABAD on Sunday. I’m selecting Mischief because he just got to do something really fun! Make sure to watch for that!
