Ahh, it’s finale time! I’m so excited about this episode and then season 2! Unless something drastic happens, I WILL be continuing this series at least into season 2. There are a lot of revelations in this episode and I hope it’s a satisfying ending to season 1.
I tried not to have a cliffhanger. You might think it’s a tiny cliffhanger, but it’s nothing compared to what I thought about doing….
Season 1 Recap
Pyro and I tricked the team into thinking we were going to pick up her luggage, but actually we were going to the secret headquarters of the rogue supers.
I was a little nervous about taking a small plane alone with Pyro, but I figured I could handle myself. Plus, if she was actually telling the truth, I would see my mother again.
I landed the plane and followed Pyro into the abandoned barn where she’d led me. Part of me knew it would be a trap, but the other part of me had hope that I would see my mother again.
I cautiously followed Pyro into the building. It was actually nicer than I thought it would be looking from the outside.
“I’m looking for Lady Earthquake,” Pyro asked.
A breeze shifted to a woman who definitely was familiar to me.
“Thanks Whistle,” Pyro added as I walked over to my mother.
“Mom?” I asked.
“Lauren!” my mom exclaimed, wrapping her arms around me. “Oh how I’ve missed you!”
“If you missed me then why did you leave?” I asked, pulling away.
“I didn’t want to, baby. But it wasn’t safe. You see how they treat superheroes here.”
“But you aren’t a superhero!”
My mom smiled. “Just because you’ve never seen something doesn’t mean it isn’t true.”
She stomped her foot and the ground rumbled beneath my feet.
“They don’t call her Lady Earthquake for nothing,” Pyro added.
“But that doesn’t make sense!” I exclaimed. “I’ve been around supers. They always slip up somehow by using their powers. I would have known.”
“Not, if they have a necklace that prevents the power from being used.” My mom explained. “It’s like your serum, just not permanent.”
I searched my memory. It was true. I never remembered seeing my mom without her necklace. Her necklace, which she then gave to me and made me promise never to take it off.
Which, I’d never taken off. Why did my mother want me to keep it on?
My head spun in realization.
“Are,” I shakily begun. I could barely get the words out. “Are super powers genetic?”
I knew the answer. It would be hard to forget the father-son duo know as Lightning and Bolt that worked for LoS.
“Well, of course!” my mom replied. “That’s why I gave you the necklace…Miss Aftershock.”
My knees buckled from under me. Pyro caught me, but I was in shock.
“You mean,” “I could,” I muttered.
“Yes dear,” my mother replied. “You can learn to use powers just like me.”
I called in sick to LoS for the next few days. There was a lot to process.
Pyro texted me. “They’re starting to get suspicious of me,” she complained. “I really need you to give your report.”
So, I went back into the office. Tori and Andy were overjoyed to see me again. It’s funny, when you see someone every day, you kind of take them for granted. I had missed those two a lot.
“How were you?” Tori asked after giving me a huge hug.
“I just had a headache,” I fibbed. “But, I’m better now.”
“I need to speak with Mr. Man,” I added.
Mr. Man walked up from behind us and I jumped. It’s a good thing I put my thoughts to the back of my mind before entering LoS headquarters.
“Yes, and I need to speak to you as well,” he replied. I followed him into his office.
“What is your report on Pyro?” he inquired. “Is she trustworthy or not?”
I swallowed. “I think she’s genuine, sir.”
“I mean, she’s done bad things in the past, but I do believe that she wants to help society. Both regulars and supers.”
I had to be careful what I said. It was impossible to lie to a telepath, so I had carefully crafted a script on my time off.
“Very well.” Mr. Man signed some paperwork. “We’ll give her a chance. But if she makes one mistake, she’s out.”
“I’ll tell her the good news myself, sir,” I added, walking to the door.
“One more thing?” Mr. Man called.
I turned around. “Yeah?”
“I want Pyro on your team. I need someone I can trust to keep an eye on her.”
“Okay,” I replied, heading to tell my team the news.
Aftershock season 1 is officially a wrap! I do hope you’ve enjoyed this series. I can’t wait to share season 2 with you all, as I feel like the stakes will be much higher and it can just be even better than season 1.
Remember the red carpet Q&A! Comment any questions for me or the Aftershock cast NOW! I will be posting the Q&A next week, but I’m going to go ahead and make the cut-off time for questions be THURSDAY AT 12 AM EST! Meaning, if you ask a question after that time, it probably won’t get answered in the red carpet post. I look forward to answering all your questions!
P.S. Rocket blooper!
