Hello friends! Today we’re going to officially meet Oswald! I hope you like it.
Rain drizzled past my window. The “splish-sploosh” sound it made relaxed me. As I stared out the window, I felt my older sister’s presence behind me. We both enjoyed dreary days like this.
“What do you think Starburst wants to tell us?” Petal asked.
I sighed. Starburst had been cryptic lately. She claimed that she had an announcement for us. Petal and I didn’t know if it was a small announcement, like we were eating dinner at a fancy restaurant, or a big announcement, such as us moving.
“I don’t know,” I sighed. I hoped that it wasn’t something life-changing. “Maybe we’re going on vacation?”
Petal and I weren’t left thinking for long. Before long, Starburst returned from her mysterious errand.
She wasn’t alone. Beside her, was a small young rabbit. He seemed to be just a little bit younger than myself. Confused, I wondered who this bunny was. Starburst was a teacher, so maybe this was one of her students?
“This is Oswald,” Starburst introduced.
I waved. “Hello,”
Petal gave a weak wave.
“Oswald is going to be living with us,” Starburst replied.
My jaw figuratively dropped to the floor. Whenever Starburst had adopted Petal, it was a decision that we had discussed together. I didn’t understand why she hadn’t even told us about Oswald.
“I know you guys are surprised,” she began. “But to be honest, this wasn’t really a decision that I had a lot of time to think on.”
Her words did nothing to shake the shocked expression from my face.
“Don’t get me wrong,” Starburst added. “I did ponder this a lot, and I know that this is the right decision for our family. But Oswald needed a home, and I thought that we can give him a loving family.”
Starburst then wrapped her arms around Oswald.
Finally, the boy spoke. “I’m really glad to be here.”
I felt the corners of my mouth turn upwards. “I’m happy to meet you,” I replied. “I always like meeting new friends.”
I elbowed Petal. I knew she wouldn’t say anything on her own, but I figured she should at least say hello to our new sibling.
“Nice to meet you,” she mumbled.
Starburst wrapped us all into one big hug. There we stood, united as one family.
Later that night, we decided to visit my cousins, the Stone family. We had an introduction to make.
When we entered their lovely home, their whole family was waiting for us. Starburst had already called them on the way over to announce that we had a surprise.
As soon as my cousins saw Oswald, they rushed to ask him questions.
“What’s your name?” Cherry asked.
“Are you Swirl and Petal’s new brother?” Sandy inquired.
“I’ve adopted a son,” Starburst announced. “His name is Oswald.”
The next moments were spent asking and answering questions about Oswald. I learned that he was an avid Disney fan. He also seemed to be an introvert. I smiled. There was still so much to learn about Oswald, and I for one couldn’t wait to find out more about my new brother.
I smiled at Oswald and squeezed his paw. “I’m really happy you’re a part of our family.”
Oswald grinned. “I’m happy to finally have a place where I belong.”
And so that day we gained a new family member. Even though it was going to be an adjustment, I felt that it would be a happy one.
Please give a big welcome to Oswald! His profile is up here.
