Skipping Stones Episode 2 “Corn Mazes and Paychecks”

Hello friends! We’re getting close to the end of Halloween week…sadly. But not to worry, I’ve saved my best content for the last few days! I’m really excited about the next couple of posts…

Anyway, let’s talk about today’s post. It’s another episode of Skipping Stones, our sitcom!

I couldn’t quite figure out what to write for this post, and I also couldn’t think of how to make it funny. I did think of some fall-related content for this sitcom though! Personally, I do think that the first episode was funnier…but this one still has its moments.

Golden sunlight glitters upon two bears. They look at each other in admiration. These two bears are in the beginning stages of love.

“I’ll have you know I’m an expert at mazes,” Andy boasted.

“I’ve spent a lot of time in them…”

Andy hands a few dollars to a worker in the ticket booth.

“Two tickets please,”

The ticket taker smiles. 

“You guys have two hours in the maze. That should be plenty of time, but if not, we’ll come to get you.”

Andy laughs. “We won’t be needing that.”

Andy wraps his arm around Bella’s shoulder. They head into the maze together.

Cloud walks in and finds his cousin Mischief rolling around in a pile of money.

“What are you doing?”

“Aftershock just finished filming, so that means I got my first paycheck! Mom took my paycheck from last season to put in a college fund, but this season it’s all mine! Who needs college anyway?”

“I’m basking in my millions,” comes the reply.

Cloud squints. “I might not have ever seen a million dollars, but this certainly isn’t what it would look like.”

“Okay, fine,” Mischief sighs. “It’s only about a thousand dollars.”

“I may have fibbed a little when I said it’s all mine…Mom did take most of it to put in my college fund.”

“What are you gonna do with it?” Cloud asks.

“I have some ideas…”

“I want to spend it all in one day.”

“Are you sure that’s a good idea?” Cloud says. “Mommy always tells me to save my allowance when I can.”

“Eh,” Mischief shrugs. “I can do whatever I want.”

“As long as you take me along with you,” Cloud decides.

“Duh!” Mischief nods.

“Alright!” Cloud exclaims. “What should we do first?”

“I know exactly where we are,” Andy reassures his girlfriend.

“Are you sure?” Bella asks. “I feel like we’ve been going around in circles.

“That’s how corn mazes work sweetie,”

“I have no idea how to get out of here…”

“If you say so,” Bella blinks. “I just like spending time with you.”

Andy smiles. “I like spending time with you too.”

“Let’s get out of here and go see a movie,” Bella grins.

“Oh crap,”

“Um, why don’t we hang out in here for a while? It’s nice and quiet,” Andy falters.

“Yeah, but I mean, we’ve been in here for almost an hour,” Bella sighs. “They’ll come and get us in an hour!”

“Exactly,” Andy awkwardly smiles. “We still have another hour.”

“Okay,” Bella says. “If that’s what you want.”

“Are you in need of Halloween decorations? We’ve got just the thing for you!”

“MUMMIFIED BUNNIES!”

“They’re perfect for outdoor or indoor decor. Order now, and you can get two for the price of one! Just pay separate shipping and handling.”

“Shipping and handling cost $1,000,000.”

“Make your order TODAY!”

“Do you think your mom would get upset if I drove your car?” Mischief wonders.

Cloud glares at him. “Um, yeah. Isn’t it illegal to drive without a license?”

“Well yeah, but I’m rich now. Rich people can do whatever they like.”

“I don’t think that’s how it works…”

“I don’t think Mommy would allow that,” Cloud replies.

“Oh, alright,” Mischief sighs. “I suppose delivery is fun too.”

Cloud grins. “Can we order pizza?”

“Duh!” Mischief dials a number into his phone. “Let’s also get some soda and dessert!”

Cloud jumps in the air. “Yes! What should we buy next?”

“We?”

“It’s my money,” Mischief frowns.

“But you need to spend it all in one day, right?” Cloud reasons. “A thousand dollars is like an unlimited amount of money!”

“Well, alright,” Mischief sighs. “Here’s a hundred dollars. Spend it however you want.”

Cloud grasps the bills. “Awesome! Thanks!”

Mischief rubs his hands together. “What next…?”

“Are you sure we’re not lost?” Bella asks.

“I told you I’m an expert,” Andy brags. “I would never get lost in a corn maze.”

“Of course I know we’re lost. But he likes to think he’s an expert at corn mazes and I’m not going to tell him I know otherwise. I will however make this…interesting.”

“You’re right,” Bella grins. “Let’s do the corn maze again!”

Andy freezes. “What?”

“You heard me,” Bella repeats. “I want to go back through the corn maze. We’ll turn around and go through it again! Since you’re so good at it.”

Andy’s face turns pale. “I might have a confession…”

“You’re terrible at corn mazes?” Bella laughs. “I got that after you missed the exit three times.”

“Wait, what?”

“You may not be an expert at corn mazes, but I am!” Bella brags.

“You mean, you’ve known we were lost this whole time?” Andy gasps.

Bella nods. “I did. But I didn’t want to step on your moment. Since you’re such an expert.”

“You should have said so! We’re finally out of that darn maze!”

The couple laughs.

“Time for the movies?” Andy asks.

Bella nods. “Unless you want to be an expert at something else.”

“Well, I am an expert at getting lost in corn mazes…”

*knock knock*

“Trick-or-treat!”

“Oh! What a nice costume you have. Here’s a toothbrush. I hope that’s a nice treat.”

“Don’t be this person. Order special Halloween treats from Waffle’s bakery. You can’t go wrong!”

Mischief and Cloud sit in the midst of pizza and drinks. The living room is a disaster.

Peri walks in.

“What are you boys up to?”

“I ate too much pizza.”

Mischief moaned. “I’m trying to spend all my paycheck today…all we’ve gotten so far is pizza.”

“Why on earth would you want to do that?” Peri gasps. “Don’t you know how important it is to save money?”

“I tried to tell him, Cloud groaned.

Peri sits down on the couch and motions for the two boys to join her.

“You see, as much fun as it is to spend money today, there might be something you want more tomorrow. Or, perhaps even something that you need! So it’s important to keep some of your money on hand. Does that make sense?”

Mischief nods. “I think I learned my lesson.

“Aunt Peri was right. I should spend money on what I really want. Hawaii, here I come!”

The end! I really do enjoy making these sitcoms. They are a lot of work though, so if you enjoyed these, please let me know!
