Magical Memories ep. 1

Hello friends!

Now, if you’re new here, I’ve probably been mentioning this series for longer than you’ve been around. Seriously, I keep talking about it, but I just haven’t gotten around to sharing it! I don’t really know why, but I’m changing that today.

The gist of this series is I share memories about getting each of the Build-a-Bears. Now, at this point it’s been over a decade since I’ve gotten a lot of them, so I don’t remember much. But I’ll try to share what I remember about each bear. I’ll probably share 5-10 memories per post, though it will vary depending on the lengths of the memories.

Also, I already made a post like this about Brownie, so I’m not going to include her in this. She deserves her own post, and you can find that here!

(BAB stands for Build-a-Bear, and BABW stands for Build-a-Bear Workshop)

Sugar Cinnamon

My second ever Build-a-Bear was Sugar Cinnamon. I got Brownie on August 22nd, and by November 11th, Build-a-Bear had already come out with a new Brown Sugar Puppy. I don’t remember why, but we went to the mall on Veterans Day. Back then, Build-a-Bear used to send out coupons in the mail. I had a $5 coupon, and of course, Brown Sugar Puppy II cost $10. I seem to remember paying for her with coins I’d saved up myself, but I don’t remember completely. Anyway, Sugar Cinnamon came home with me. She and Brownie were sisters of course. I think I even convinced my mom to get another version of Cinnamon for a friend’s birthday because I loved this dog so much. For a very long time, Cinnamon was my favorite Build-a-Bear. She’s certainly been well-loved. If you could compare her to a brand-new Brown Sugar Puppy II, you’d be surprised at the difference!

Holly K. & Hal E.

So the same year I got Brownie, 2008, Build-a-Bear created two Holiday characters…Hal and Holly Moose! When I saw them, I fell in love. I wanted Holly and the book that went along with her, but I believe it ended up being cheaper to Holly, Hal, and the book. The book is actually still a really sweet Christmas tale that I enjoyed when I reviewed it years later. (review here) I later got the movie that was created based on the book, and I intend to review that one of these holiday seasons. While the movie hasn’t held up as well as the books, these characters are still iconic. I’m glad I got these two. I got them on December 10th, btw.

Snuggly

I believe Snuggly was the first Build-A-Bear that I didn’t get at my home BABW location. And she’s one of the few that I didn’t get there. I got her a few days after Christmas, while at my grandma’s house. Fun fact, my mom actually wanted me to get Snuggly instead of Brownie initially, but I suppose it worked out because I got both. Anyway, I think I promised at the time that “Snuggly would be my last Build-a-Bear.” Obviously that wasn’t true, but in my defense, what does the promise of a five-year-old really mean? I got Snuggly on December 27th, 2008.

Starburst Fluffy

For this story, we venture into 2009. More specifically, March 20th, 2009. In all honesty, I don’t remember much about getting Starburst other than the date. I feel like it was around Easter, and that’s why I got a rabbit. Build-a-Bear actually still sells a rabbit very similar to Starburst today. Now, out of all the BABs on this list, Starburst is probably the first one you all are familiar with because I’ve featured her a lot.

Velvety Pup

Remember how I said Cinnamon was my favorite BAB for a while? Well, on June 11th, 2009, she would be de-throned from her place as the favorite. I don’t remember why I chose Velvety, but she became my new favorite once I’d gotten her.

Lil Choc

On November 27th, my dad took me to the mall and we made a bear for my mom, who was having surgery. We dressed him in a set of scrubs and named him Lil Choc. I can’t remember if there was any significance to the name or not, but while Lil Choc was the eighth BAB, he was the first bear in our household! He was my mom’s bear for a while, but eventually, he became more of my bear. Especially when I decided that he and Periwinkle would get married, and then came the Stone kids!

Patrioticy

When we went to BABW on this trip, I really wanted this one BAB called the “Be Mine Dalmatian.” Sadly, that bear was sold out and I never got her. (I was going to name her Belle, I think) Anyway, it was February 12th, 2010, and I guess it was either President’s Day or almost President’s Day. There was this Patriotic Pup, so I picked her out and she came home with me.

Miss Daisy Blossom

On March 8th of the same year, I got another Easter-themed animal…Daisy the rabbit! Again, my memory was a bit spotty, but I think we had a coupon for Daisy. Also, I’m pretty sure on the Blossom Bunny tag, it mentioned how she and Starburst were cousins, and I always hung on to that little fact.

Goldie

Goldie was another BAB who wasn’t purchased at my local mall. I think my Grandma ordered her online one year and gave her to me when we saw her around Christmastime 2010. I got her on November 27th, 2010. I think Goldie was the first BAB I didn’t stuff myself, but that didn’t make me love her any less. Honestly, she was probably my favorite BAB for the longest time, before I eventually stopped having a favorite.

Alright, that’s a wrap on episode one of Magical Memories! I hope you enjoyed this little walk down memory lane, even if my memory isn’t the most reliable. I can’t wait to share the rest of the series with you!
