Reacting to the Aftershock Prologue

Hello friends! Today I will be reacting to the Aftershock prologue! I thought this would be a fun way to celebrate Aftershock’s legacy…by looking at Aftershock’s humble beginnings.

My reactions will be normal and the prologue will be in italics. You can read the original post here if you like.

I’d forgotten I’d made this cast list. Lauren and Tori’s names came from a name generator, and as you can see, I didn’t do so well at naming the other characters. One thing that surprises me is that Baby isn’t in this cast list! I’m pretty sure he was in the series well before Lauren’s mom or young Lauren.

Hello friends! Today I have for you the very first installment of Aftershock! Even though this is a photo series, there will not be any photos in the prologue. I just have a short little passage for you all, so you can kind of get the idea of the series. I hope you enjoy!

No photos in the prologue? That’s boring. I’d definitely add photos if this was a series I was starting now. But this was my first ever photo series, so I was bound to make some mistakes.

Also, I didn’t have a special Aftershock divider yet…

I’d always been fascinated by superheroes. First, I’d loved them as fictional characters while I was growing up. Then, they saved the world when I was a teenager and we knew they weren’t just stories. I’d decided then that I wanted to be one someday. The only problem? I didn’t have any superpowers. However, that didn’t stop me from climbing to the top of my class at the Superhero Academy. They let anyone in that school, but only the best of the best could graduate. As one of the only graduating students without powers, I was often overlooked. But I was still able to snag a job at League of Superheroes (or LoS, as everyone calls it).

Way to be info-dumpy Diamond…way to go.

Since I didn’t have any powers, I mostly filed paperwork. It wasn’t my dream job, but it was the closest I would ever get without super powers. I desperately wanted to go out in the field and save lives. But I would have to settle for filing paperwork. At least I was filing the paperwork of superheroes. That was pretty cool.

Paperwork? *yawns* Lauren had such a boring life…

But that was all about to change. My heart fluttered with excitement when I got the email. My boss wanted to meet with me. Since I was one of the best workers at LoS, I was pretty sure that I wouldn’t get fired. So, this meeting must be to discuss a promotion!

Yayyyy an email. Because emails are sooo fun and life-changing…

I tried to suppress my excitement as I entered my boss’s office.

“You wanted to see me sir?” I asked, closing the door behind me.

“Yes,” Mr. Man replied. “I think you know why I called you in?”

I smiled. Mr. Man was a telepath, so he could easily find out that I was expecting a promotion. “I might,” I grinned.

“Well, you’re right about a promotion. I think you’ll do well in our recruitment office,” he announced.

Of course Lauren just magically predicts why he wants to meet with her…logic.

“Recruitment office?” I gasped. I wasn’t aware that LoS had a recruitment office.

“I understand your confusion,” Mr. Man replied calmly. “We don’t have a traditional recruitment office, but I think you’ll soon find I have good reason to call it that.”

“I’ll take your word for it,” I shrugged. “Thank you very much for this promotion.”

“You’re very welcome,” Mr. Man replied. “Show up here tomorrow morning, 8:00 a.m. sharp. And don’t forget to pack a bag.”

Lots of notice Mr. Man, lots of notice.

I stopped, puzzled at that last comment. “Yes sir,” I replied.

And that was the prologue of Aftershock! Stay tuned next month for part 1!

Wow…let’s just say that I’ve come a long way. At least I hope I have. I can’t believe you all fell in love with Aftershock when this was the sort of content I was giving you. But I’m glad I guess. Even though I know this isn’t some of my best work, I had to start somewhere. I’m glad I’ve been able to grow. I also know how much Aftershock has meant to me, this blog, and all of you. It’s a little bittersweet for this series to come to an end, but I’m ready to move on to our next chapter.

(I even had the same signature all these years ago!)
